Whole Body Vibration
Can you shake yourself fit? Actually, this isn’t a new concept. The whole body vibration platform was originally developed from research during the 1960s space race to help astronauts exercise and build mass faster. It was discovered that vibration training could prevent loss of bone density and muscle tissue—two major problems astronauts faced when spending extensive time in zero gravity. Today, this modality can be used by anyone for a low-impact approach to achieving increased strength, flexibility, higher metabolism, and total body rejuvenation.
The whole body vibration platform produces vibrations that stimulate the cells, blood vessels, organs, and muscles when you stand on it. The body reacts involuntarily with muscle contractions, activating your balance instinct. The fast, yet smooth movement of the platform increases the “g” force of the body, so your body feels as if it weighs more than it does, imitating weight-bearing exercise. But unlike traditional weight bearing exercises, the whole body vibration platform produces less stress on the body’s joints, ligaments, and tendons.
No workout clothes required to use the whole body vibration platform. Studies have shown that 12 minutes on the vibration platform can give the same results as a 1.5 hour work out with weights. Whole body vibration therapy has been helpful in:
- accelerating weight loss
